A wonderful rustic example of an early French confit pot, featuring double loop handles and a warm, natural coloured glaze. The rounded handles are distinctive of the Southwest region of France, where this style originated. Designed for practicality, the looped handles made it easier to lift, hang, or carry the pot in and out of cool storage spaces.

Originally made for culinary use, confit pots were staples of traditional French kitchens before refrigeration. The term confit comes from the French verb confire — to preserve. In summer, meats like duck or goose were slow-cooked and sealed under a thick layer of fat, then stored in the pots, either in a larder or  buried underground. The contents were enjoyed through the leaner winter months.

Confit pots now serve as a striking vase for flowers, for storage of kitchen utensils or simply as decorative objects. This beautifully unique piece is full of inherent character to add history, texture and colour to an interior.
